“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands — this is the Word of life. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.” 1 John 1:1, 3 BSB

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: When I came into Christ, my soul was wounded and unclean. I use the word unclean not to judge anyone or cause offence, but because that is how I can describe my soul before I was renewed. The first major issue I had was my inability to forgive. Like many of us, I had been deeply offended, betrayed and disappointed by someone I trusted and who was dear to me. The pain of that wound negatively affected every other aspect of my life.

The first major soul cleansing that God dealt with in me was forgiveness, as God has forgiven us in Christ. He pointed me to the Scriptures, which say that if I do not forgive my brother from my heart, I will remain bound until I can pay my own debt (Matthew 18:21-35). I read the passage several times until it opened up in my heart, and I was convicted. From that day, not only did I forgive my offender, but my soul was also freed to see and deal with other pollutants of my soul.

The next Scripture I encountered was: “In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12 BSB

This caught my attention, and I thought about it for some time until one day I found myself checking whether I would like to receive the action I was about to take towards someone else. If I didn't like it, then I wouldn't do it.

I want you to look at these Scriptures and consider your personal response to them. Think about them until they sink deep into your soul. Then, the people connected to these issues will come into your consciousness, and you will be moved to take steps to address the issues arising.

Dear Lord and Father, two things fuel wickedness and rifts in the world: unforgiveness and self-centredness (not thinking of our neighbours). As we think about Your Word concerning these two issues, touch our hearts to change and obey Your Word. Lord, I personally pray today that the air will carry these two principles to warring leaders in the world.
