ORIGIN OF CONFLICTS

“What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you? You crave what you do not have; you kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask.” James 4:1-2 BSB

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: A man loved his wife so much, and the wife was equally, if not more, in love with her husband. They started off well, but the husband wanted to take full control of the wife’s life. He struggled gently at first to control his possessiveness, but the wife was a friendly and magnetic person. After a few years, the passion in the man began to war within him over whether to let the wife be or forcefully subdue her. The desire to forcefully subdue her had the upper hand after he had discussed it with his wife and she couldn’t change her nature. Then they became enemies, though they desired each other, until the marriage broke.

This is a simple case of how conflicts and wars begin within people. It may be within individuals, communities, or nations. We desire something within us, we see it in others, we ask the person, community, or nation that has it, and we are refused. Then we begin conflicts to forcefully take it at any cost. If you observe why a conflict breaks out between you and others, you will see that it is because you desire something that they have and you cannot have it peacefully, so you start a conflict. As we enter the last quarter of the year, learn to know what belongs to you and what belongs to others that they may not give up willingly. It is not only material things. It includes their personality or freedom. Let them be, so as to stop conflicts. Tomorrow, we shall consider how to have whatever we desire without infringing on the rights of others.

Dear Lord Jesus, teach me to know my bounds so I do not desire what does not belong to me, but be satisfied with what is mine.
