HAPPY DAY TO YOU: I have been wondering for a long time how our lives are controlled. When we were children in Abeokuta, a man in his thirties doing well in London was ‘called back’ by someone who we could not explain leaving everything he had behind. The elders said it was a spiritual attack but we didn’t understand. Since then, I have been curious to know what controls our lives. 

The Holy Spirit gave me an understanding of our text for today in answer to my prayers and questions about our being. I will share the understanding I have and as it progresses with practice, we shall share with each other.

I like the KJV presentation. It says the spirit quickeneth. In modern English, quickeneth is rendered as quickens. The flesh profits nothing. A dead person has given up the spirit so it is nothing. Everything his brain had in it is useless. He has no feelings again. What quickens the flesh is the word. Jesus said the words He speaks to us are spirit and are life.

This means that the flesh only moves or responds to the word. To change the state of the flesh, then you change the word that you speak to it. It sounds so simple but it is so true. I have found that my body responds to the word I speak to it consistently. We are all programmed by God with some default programs that our bodies hear even as we come out. Words that make the baby cry, eat, breathe and do other basic activities. As the child grows, he hears other words from the parents, neighbours, teachers etc. that he takes in which he speaks to himself that control his flesh or direct his life. Whose word you hear and take to heart speaking it to yourself is the controller of your life.

I leave you today to think about this and ask the Holy Spirit to expound it more and better to you.

I pray that the Lord will give you understanding of how to control your word that you may control your flesh in Jesus name.
