FAITH FOR TEMPORAL NEEDS 1

August 22. Psalms ch 73-76; Romans 15

"Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’""For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them." Matthew 6:31-32 BSB

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: Yesterday, we saw that the ultimate or sole purpose of faith is eternal life but then we have needs here that if they are not met, they take away our peace and joy such that we can renounce eternal life or some people even deny Christ them something has to happen. If we don't want this to happen how do we go about it from the mouth of Christ Himself?

Part one of this teaching is to make us realize that Jesus Christ appreciates the need for those things. They are; what shall we eat, what shall we drink and what shall we wear. They are real concerns that saps our physical, emotional and spiritual energies. I did worry a lot about such things including paying school fees etc. In spite of all my worries, I noticed that nothing happened through my efforts. I only found myself living on edge and achieving nothing. However in God's own way, He provided for our daily needs.

Our Father in heaven knows that we need all these things. Food, education, clothes and drinks are His responsibilities. It’s like our children. We are the ones who supply their needs; they only ask us. It is strangers and domestic workers who worry about whether their needs would be met or not. Jesus says only gentiles worry about the cares of the world. This part one is the first acid test of whether we have faith in Christ that makes us God’s children or not.

When we say that we surrender our lives to Jesus as Lord and Saviour, it means we give all our burdens to Him and follow Him to take us through. This is simple but very true. People may call you lazy but when they try to totally trust Jesus, they will discover that it is not laziness but a different kind of work that the enemy of our souls attacks. Tomorrow, we shall consider our own part to play in meeting our temporary needs here.

Dear Lord Jesus, total surrender is tough because we have acquired the ‘maintain yourself outside God's care’ attitude since the fall. Teach me totally surrender to your care in the name of Jesus.
